To the lay person, reading through a greyhound race card endeavouring to understand and interpret each greyhound’s form is possibly the most daunting experience any new race goer might have! But worry not, here’s how it’s done:

How to read the form Trap number for this race Name of the greyhound R = rails M = middle or W = wide Name of the owner Colour and sex of the greyhound b = bitch or d = dog Name of sire and dam Name of the trainer Month and year of birth Country of origin Ir = Irish, Br = British Colour of the racing jacket worn today Previous race or trial dates in descending order. Previous race or trial distances in Metres Number of the trap from which the greyhound raced from. Distance by which the greyhound either won the race/trial or was beaten Name of the winner or if this greyhound won the race or trial, the name of the second Running remarks relevant to each race or trial. Abbreviations are explained on the inside cover of your programme Calculated going is determined by the stewards as to how the track is running N = Normal, Plus + = Fast going, Minus - = Slow going. The figure after plus or minus is either added to or subtracted from the winning time to reflect the going Greyhounds weight, all greyhounds must be within 1kg lighter or heavier of their previous weight to race Starting price, F = Favourite, JF = Joint Favourite, CF = Co favourite. T = Trial, T followed by a number indicates the number of greyhounds in the trial Grade or class of race, any number preceded by a letter is a graded race, OR = open racing, is generally of higher quality, The letter P, followed by a number equals a puppy graded race Calculated time is the actual time this greyhound recorded in race or trial with any going allowance factored in Sectional time, the time it took the greyhound to run from the trap to the winning line 50 metres at Peterborough Position in the race at 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th bends Finishing position in race or trial, solo trials = only one greyhound trialled The winning greyhounds time Trap number for this race Greyhound has run 16 times, with 2 1st place finishes and 2 2nd place finishes.
